SEO for Small Business – Competition

SEO link building competitionAt Flosee, we provide you with all the tools you need to move your small business forwards and get new customers via search queries. However, we also know that most small business owners have so many demands on their time that SEO can be one of those things that is permanently on the back burner and can seem quite daunting. So, we are running a competition which is open to any small business in the UK who has a website and would like to kickstart their own SEO. And to top it off, we are awarding a potentially MASSIVE prize. Whatever you manage to achieve, we will DOUBLE the impact for you.

And don’t worry, you don’t need to be an online guru, a development geek or a computer whizzkid to be in with a fair chance at winning. We will provide you with all of the tools, be on hand to support you for free on the day, and give you plain English instructions on how to do things. Even if you don’t end up winning, you will have added a huge amount of value to your business and will have also learned some great new techniques for getting your website seen by the search engines – and ultimately by new customers.

Link Building for small business

So, what is this competition and how can you get involved – and more importantly, WHATS THE PRIZE?
small businessThe competition will be to see which small business can build the most new links to their website in a given 24 hour period. We will provide full step by step directions for how to find these links, and the approach to take when building them. Every single small business that enters will directly benefit from these inbound links to their website as they will help send some very strong signals to Google and the other search engines that your website should be looked at, and indexed for the search terms your customers are using.

We will also be on hand during office hours to answer any questions you may have – either about the competition or about your SEO in general. The idea is to help more small business owners understand the simple steps that can be taken that will have a direct impact on your sales in the run up to Christmas.

To get involved, simply leave a comment below stating which day you would like to enter. Even if you can only spare an hour, this WILL have a benefit for your business. Please also ensure when you leave your comment you complete the web address and email address fields so we can track your progress and offer full support. The only other step is to share this page on FaceBook, Tweet the link or +1 it on Google – you choose which.

The prize? This is potentially huge – we build links all day every day for our clients, so we will DOUBLE however many links the winner has built! So if you manage to build 4000 links, we will build you another 4000 – we will match you step for step, and we will also give you a free one hour phone consultation on your website SEO. The winner and three runners up will also each get a free analysis of their website providing more information on how you can simply and easily tweak your site for better search engine visibility.

Small Business SEO Competition – the Rules

small businessSo, what will you have to do? What is it that we are asking of you and how can you get involved? This is a very simple competition, and the rules are too:

  • Open to any small business (up to 10 employees) trading in the UK with a current live website. The only exceptions will be:
    1. SEO companies and/or web developers – sorry, if you are a direct competitor we can’t help you – we are pretty sure you can understand why :)
    2. Gambling websites – the sites we will be building links on do not accept content of this type.
    3. Adult content / pornographic websites – the sites we will be building links on do not accept content of this type.
    4. Websites with illegal or immoral content – we wont endorse or publicise this kind of site, so we can’t allow entrants of this variety.
  • Only small business owners who have registered here in advance are eligible to win – registration is as simple as adding a comment below stating:
    1. which date between the 23rd and 30th November you would like to have as your business development day
    2. Your website address (in the web address field)
    3. Your email address (in the mail field, we will not share this with any third parties)
  • Please also ensure you have shared this page on FaceBook, send our link out on Twitter or press the Google +1 button (quick links to all of these are below, just above the comments section). You can do all three if you like, but we only ask for one of them!
  • Small business owners should declare in advance a fixed date during the week of the competition, and only activities from that day will count towards deciding the winner
  • Small business owners will be asked to engage in building links that point towards their website. Only one link will be counted from each domain (i.e. if you put twenty links on facebook or twitter, this will only be counted as one from each)
  • Small business owners are asked to not use any automated link building tools – these are bad for your SEO and any entrant found to have used this will be automatically excluded from eligibility to win
  • Likewise, small business owners are asked to not sub contract their link building activity. Having your web developer do this for you defeats the point of the exercise – we are trying to save you money and show you how easy it is to do! You can have multiple members of your team (if you are fortunate to have colleagues and also time available) working on it though. We can detect who submitted the links and will ban people trying to cheat the system!
  • We believe in ETHICAL search engine optimisation. A full set of guidelines will be sent to each entrant, and we ask you to abide by these to ensure you get the best from your efforts. Spam is bad in ANY form, and we do not endorse this kind of activity and will exclude any entrant who detracts from the sites they are submitting links to
  • We will supply every entrant with a LARGE list of websites where they can add their link. You may use these after the date of your entry to benefit your business, but only links built on the day count towards your total.
  • You may also add links from other sources, provided you stick within the spirit of the competition and use only ethical approaches to link building
  • Retweets, Facebook shares, Google shares and similar bonus posts on social networks will help your website, but will not be added into the total count
  • Small business owners agree that we may publish their website address and link statistics in the winners announcements which will be available on this site within a week of the competition closing on 30th November.
  • Our decision is final when determining the winners.

Is it too late for me to do this today?!

I had planned to work on SEO today anyway and had found a recommendation for this competition on our forum. Hope I can still make it…

  2. Hi Tony,

I would really like to enter your competition as it sounds a really fun challenge and a huge leaning curve – Help!

I know its very short notice, but would tomorrow the 25th be possible?

    Kind regards

    Paul

  3. Sarah Steel says:

Monday 28th for me too, please! Been on my list to sort this out for ages.

  5. Jonathan says:

SEO can make or break a small business, thus this contest if very relevant and the participants have a lot to gain! I’d love an extra 4,000 ethically generated inbound links to my website… Wish I was based in the UK!

  6. Ok, I think this is something I really need. It’s taken me this long to get used to all my html stuff in my site so I hope my brain can cope with more information!!?? I would like my day to by November 30th if that’s OK?

  7. Karyn says:

I’m on holiday from the Thursday, so not going to be able to enter I’m afraid. Shame this is just what our website needs right now. :(

  8. Karen says:

Thanks, this is fantastic work. I can do any day you like.

    • tony says:

Hi “Karen” – your entry has been removed for two reasons:
1 – your site is not based in the UK
2 – your current linking strategy is so spammy its not funny. Random posts on irrelevant blogs, multi-tweeting and getting your link over 100 times on a single directory are just a few of the techniques you are currently using, and this is NOT good practise, definitely not something we would encourage and also shows that you probably already know how to do things right but have decided that using a “magic bullet” variety of software is easier.

P.S. I removed your link as well, as I don’t wish our site to be associated with yours in any way. Sorry.

  9. Sue Hall says:

Mon 28th November will be my business development day – officially excited!

    • tony says:

Thank you Sue, great timing for you as well! I will make sure I have all your keywords ready before you start so you can get maximum benefit from your time.

  10. 24th November is the day for me!

  11. Trevor Bond says:

Tuesday 29th will be my business development day. Do I need to do anything before hand?

    • tony says:

Good luck Trevor, and thank you for registering. All you need to is keep an eye on your inbox the day before for our instruction pack, and try to set aside a chunk of time on the Tuesday so you can have a decent chance of building some good links and being in with a shot at winning :)

  12. Phil Jenkins says:

I’m not an SEO guy or web developer but I look after a customers website for them as part of their PR deal with me. Could I still enter even though its not my own site?

    • tony says:

      Hi Phil,
thanks for asking. Yes, the idea is that the person RUNNING the website is the one who is learning the new skills and putting them into practice. So whilst the ideal would be for the customer themselves to be doing this, if you are in a long term agreement with them and this is going to add value to their business then I don’t see any problem at all with you entering. Best of luck!

  13. Sounds like a great idea, and perfect timing for me. My business development day will be Wednesday 23rd November. Can’t wait.

  14. Rory says:

Count me in, my google development day will be 27thnov (sunday)

  15. Jeremy P says:

My site is going live next week, so this is perfect timing. I will be doing my bit on Wednesday 23rd november. I have emailed my details over, didn’t want to put a link here as there are still a few bugs just before it goes live.

  16. Only day I can do is Nov. 29th!
Looking forward to the challenge :)

  17. Tuesday 29th November will be my Business Development Day :)

  18. Ok I’ll commit to this – Monday the 28th of November will be my business development day! Gulp!
