Local SEO – the early results

If you have visited us recently, you will know that we have been running a one off local SEO package for a local business, Gemma Thompson from social media illumination in Woodbridge. Normally we work on a month by month basis, covering a new set of keywords every month and consistently improving the expose a company can get through natural search results. For Gemma, we wanted to try something a little bit different and do a single blast of our monthly programme, and see what the effects were. This serves two purposes – firstly it gives her business some great exposure and helps to bring in extra business for her (this is what we are all about), but secondly it gives us a chance to demonstrate to everybody else just how good and effective our SEO service is. Luckily Gemma has been kind enough to grant us permission to publish the results, and we think for a 10 day project what you are about to see is pretty amazing.

The results of our local SEO Work

One of the first completely unintended consequences of this work was that our original post mentioned four keywords we were targeting. These all linked to Gemma, but Google decided that the blog post was very important and therefore ranked us in first place for all of the keywords mentioned. Needless to say, we apologised to Gemma and then set about ensuring her site was getting the full benefit. So, in order to show the results this time, we have popped them into an image – just to make sure the same doesn’t happen again!

So – lets look at those four words first:

However, in total we looked at 331 keywords at the start of our campaign. On November 27th, only 46 of these keywords were in the top 100 results of Google.co.uk. On December 7th (today), just 10 days later we have a whopping 132 keywords in the top 100, the 19 that were there originally have all risen except for 2, and we have secured two first place results. In total, the standings compare as follows:

Local SEO – the next steps

What this has done, over the course of a ten day period, is to alert Google to the presence of this website on a much bigger scale than was previously happening. As a direct result, the search engine has revisited this website and made a new evaluation about whether the content is actually suited to the search results. From the changes in rankings, it would seem that the search engine has decided that yes, this site does warrant a higher visibility to customers. Our local search solutions focus heavily on what keywords YOUR customers are using and then we work on those words to put you directly in front of customers about to make a buying decision. The next steps for this campaign? Well, the obvious step would be to build on this success with a sustained programme of attack. This is not always possible for a number of reasons, so we will work with the client to ensure that the maximum benefit can be gained from the “shove” we have given this site in the rankings. It is also important to note that these rankings will continue to rise over the next 4- 6 weeks as more of the links we have built are discovered.
